Tournament competition is enjoyed by many local players with several tennis events held in the area including the City Grand Slam Series tournaments as well as USTA (United States Tennis Association) sanctioned junior tournaments that are hosted by the Palo Alto Tennis Club (PATC). The historic PATC is a local non-profit volunteer organization that is devoted to promoting the great game of tennis and has been in existence ever since 1948.
The ever popular City Grand Slam Series consists of four tennis tournaments held throughout the year with formats of either double elimination or round robin including both Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles. For junior players, the Palo Alto Tennis Club Green Dot Tournament is held at the Cubberley Community Centre which includes Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and Doubles.
The amount of public tennis facilities is impresive in Palo Alto which includes the Cubberley Community Centre that features six outdoor tennis courts, Gunn High School that has seven courts, Hoover Park with two courts, Hopkins with three courts, Mitchell Park with seven lighted courts, Palo Alto High School with seven courts, Peers Park with two courts, Rinconada Park which has six lighted courts, Terman Middle School with two beautiful courts and Weisshaar Park with two courts-all great for tennis lessons.
