Coach Daniel's Tennis Tips

  1. Arrive With A Clear Starting Point

Before your first tennis lesson, tell me what you enjoy, what feels difficult, and what you hope to do on court. You do not need polished strokes or special gear; bring a racket if you have one and a willingness to try. This helps me shape beginner tennis lessons, kids tennis lessons, or adult tennis lessons around your current level and priorities.

  2. Choose A Lesson Fit

Private tennis lessons give you focused feedback and a plan built around your needs. Semi-private tennis lessons add a partner while keeping instruction personal; group tennis lessons bring shared drills and more varied rallies. Hitting only sessions suit players who want live-ball repetitions with less instruction. Tell me your goals, preferred pace, and budget so we can choose a useful format.

  3. Set Goals You Can Measure

Pick one skill you can observe, such as making six of ten crosscourt forehands or recovering to ready position after each shot. A tennis coach can help turn a broad wish like “get better” into a practical target for several weeks. Keep the first goal modest, then raise the challenge when your consistency improves; steady progress matters more than a quick win.

  4. Arrive Ready To Learn

For tennis lessons in Mishawaka, arrive with time to settle in, bring water, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes that let you move safely. Tell your tennis instructor about soreness, past injuries, or anything that affects your movement before drills begin. A calm start leaves more lesson time for hitting, questions, and feedback, and helps me adjust the session to you.

  5. Practice One Skill Between Sessions

Between lessons, choose one assignment instead of trying to fix every stroke at once. Shadow swings, footwork patterns, or a short rally with a willing partner can reinforce what we covered, as long as the practice stays comfortable and controlled. Write down the cue I gave you, such as “finish toward the target,” and bring questions back so your next session builds on the last.

  6. Use Feedback During Rallies

After a correction, repeat the same shot several times before changing your focus. Ask what you should feel, where the ball should travel, and what one adjustment matters most. In private tennis lessons, we can pause often for detail; in group tennis lessons, listen for a cue that applies to your own game. Focused repetition helps feedback become a habit under pressure.

  7. Make Junior Goals Encouraging

For junior tennis lessons, keep goals specific, positive, and within a young player's control: prepare the racket early, move after contact, or try a chosen target. Praise effort and smart decisions, not only winners. Kids tennis lessons should leave room for questions and playful challenges, while clear routines help children notice progress and feel ready to take on the next skill.

  8. Track Progress After Each Lesson

Keep a simple lesson log with the date, one cue, one drill, and one thing that felt easier. Note a count when it helps, such as successful serves out of ten, but include how confident you felt too. Review the notes with me every few sessions; they show what to repeat, help us adjust realistic goals, and make improvement visible even before match results change.

  9. Ask For A Session Plan

A useful tennis instructor explains what you are working on and why, then leaves space for your questions. Before booking, share whether you want stroke fundamentals, movement, match decisions, or simply more rally time. I can recommend private tennis lessons, semi-private tennis lessons, group tennis lessons, or hitting only sessions based on your priorities, schedule, and comfort learning with other players.

  10. Coach's Corner

I teach players to recover after every groundstroke: hit, turn your shoulders toward the next likely ball, and take small adjustment steps back to a balanced position. Do not admire the shot or retreat in a straight line. On your next rally, say “hit and recover” quietly after contact. This simple routine gives you more time for the next ball and makes your court coverage feel organized.

Whether you are new to tennis or refining a familiar stroke, I’ll help you choose a lesson format and set goals that fit your game. I teach private, semi-private, and group tennis lessons, plus hitting only sessions in Mishawaka, Indiana. Bring your questions and one skill you want to improve; together, we’ll build a practical plan and make each practice session count. Book tennis lessons with Coach Daniel and take your next step!
