About Miami Tennis Coach Kaptan

Hello my name is Kaptan and I am a Miami tennis coach with over 20 years of playing experience and over 6 years of teaching experience! I am now 25 years old and I am originally from San Diego, California. I played college tennis for NCAA Point Loma Nazarene University in Point Loma, CA. I had a great time playing college tennis and really learned a lot from the coaches and players that were all around me.

I can honestly say I was the hardest worker in college on my tennis team and I truly believe if you are really passionate about something and put everything you have into it, you will be successful in life at whatever you do. I’ve always approached my tennis and everything else that I do in my life with that attitude and it has helped propel me forward not only in tennis, but also in every other aspect of my life.

Since graduating from college in 2014, I’ve been playing on the ATP World Tour. Although I have had some major injuries, I have also had some great successes and have moved my ranking up. I have gained a great amount of experience and knowledge over these past couple of years on tour from both players and coaches that I have met along the way. I have also learned a lot from just playing. I have improved from my time on tour and plan to continue as long as I love doing it.

I’ve traveled all over the world for tennis and it really is a universal sport. I have learned many tips & strategies that I have incorporated into my coaching. Although I do travel a lot, I love to coach when I’m in town. I love to help people improve their game in any way I can. I have a really good track record of taking junior and adult players to the next level in their game. Whether you want to win Wimbledon or win the Club Championship, I know my coaching will help raise your level of play. I take a complete look at my tennis students and target their strengths and help utilize them to their fullest potential. I also take time with each student to target their weaknesses and I work very hard on making it a consistent and effective part of their game. I teach tennis lessons in the Miami area but I will also travel up to 50 miles to a tennis court located close to you in the South Florida area!

Coach Kaptan's Tennis Tips

  1. Arrive With One Clear Goal

Before your first tennis lesson, tell me what you want to improve: a dependable serve, steadier rallies, or confidence at the net. Share your experience and any past injuries, too. In Miami, I use that information to shape a useful starting point, not to judge your level. Bring a racket if you have one, and be ready to ask questions as we set a practical plan together.

  2. Choose The Right Lesson Format

Private tennis lessons give you focused feedback and a plan tailored to your game. Semi-private tennis lessons let two players learn together while still getting individual coaching. Group tennis lessons add variety, partner drills, and live points. For hitting only sessions, bring a specific rally or pattern to work on. Choose the format that fits your goals, learning style, and preferred pace.

  3. Make Every Session Count

A good tennis coach should explain what a drill is meant to improve, then help you notice the result. During tennis lessons in Miami, I encourage players to pause between exercises, name one useful cue, and try it again. If an instruction feels unclear, ask me to demonstrate it. Understanding the purpose behind a movement helps you carry the lesson onto the court when you practice alone.

  4. Practice Between Lessons With Purpose

Between sessions, repeat one or two lesson themes instead of trying to fix everything at once. For example, spend a short practice block on your serve toss, then finish with controlled crosscourt rallies. Keep the goal simple enough to remember without a coach beside you. If you are unsure what to work on, ask me for a drill and a clear target before your next lesson.

  5. Set Goals You Can Measure

Choose goals that describe actions you control, such as making six of ten second serves or keeping a rally going for eight shots. A beginner taking beginner tennis lessons can focus on clean contact before match wins. I help kids tennis lessons and adult tennis lessons stay encouraging by setting a small challenge, checking it regularly, and adjusting it as skills become more consistent.

  6. Track Progress Beyond Match Scores

After each lesson, write down one skill that improved, one cue to remember, and one question for next time. Add simple numbers when useful, such as successful serves out of ten or rally length. This record makes progress visible even when a match feels uneven. For junior tennis lessons, a player can keep the notes and choose a favorite achievement to share with family.

  7. Bring Useful Questions To Coaching

A tennis instructor can help more when you describe what happens, not just what feels wrong. Instead of saying, “My forehand is bad,” explain whether the ball lands short, flies long, or feels late. Then ask for one adjustment to test. Clear questions help me choose the right drill, keep feedback manageable, and make each lesson feel connected to a real challenge in your game.

  8. Match The Format To Your Needs

Your best lesson format can change as your priorities change. Start with private coaching if you want detailed corrections, then try group tennis lessons to practice choices with different partners. Semi-private tennis lessons can suit friends with similar goals, while a hitting only session can build rally rhythm. Tell me what feels most useful, and we can choose a format that supports your next step.

  9. Review, Reset, And Keep Going

At the end of a lesson, take a minute to repeat the main cue and decide when you will practice it. Notice effort as well as results: better footwork or a calmer routine counts, even before a shot becomes reliable. If progress slows, tell me what you have tried. We can simplify the task, change the drill, or set a fresh target without losing sight of your bigger goal.

  10. Coach's Corner

Here is one cue I use for a more reliable forehand: turn your shoulders as the ball approaches, then meet it in front of your body with a relaxed arm. I ask players to finish with the racket pointing toward the target, not to swing harder. Start with gentle feeds, aim crosscourt, and notice clean contact. Once that feels steady, add pace while keeping the same balance and shape.

Whether you are new to tennis or refining a match-ready skill, I can help you choose a lesson format and set a practical next step. Book private, semi-private, or group tennis lessons, or arrange a hitting only session with Coach Kaptan in Miami. Bring your questions, your goals, and a willingness to learn.
