Hello my name is Matthew and I am a fun, local San Jose tennis coach with over 5 years of playing experience and over 1 year of teaching experience! I am also a PTR Certified Tennis Professional. I work with juniors and adults from beginner through intermediate levels, with a focus on making tennis simple, approachable, and enjoyable. I began playing competitively in high school, progressing from No. 5 singles to No. 1 singles and serving as team captain. During my high school tennis career, I won a conference singles championship and earned All-Valley recognition. After high school, I continued developing my game while training with community college players. Today, I remain an active competitive player and compete in USTA and UTR events, which allows me to bring current match experience directly into my coaching. My teaching philosophy focuses on helping players learn through movement, feel, and practical experience rather than overwhelming them with too many technical instructions. I believe tennis players improve faster when concepts are kept simple and they are given plenty of opportunities to actually hit, rally, and problem-solve on the court. Lessons are tailored to each player’s experience, goals, and learning style, whether they are picking up a racquet for the first time, developing more consistent strokes, or looking to become more confident in match play. Most importantly, I want my students to enjoy tennis and feel measurable progress from their lessons. My goal is to create a positive environment where players can build solid fundamentals, understand the game, and also develop the confidence to keep improving both during lessons and on their own. I teach tennis lessons in the San Jose area but I will also travel up to 10 miles!
