Hello my name is Diego & I’m a fun, local Needham Heights tennis coach with over 15 years of playing experience and over 1 year of teaching experience! I began playing tennis at the age of seven in Spain, where I trained and also competed in a highly competitive environment that shaped my understanding of the game from an early age. Working with several experienced coaches, including former ATP coach Jorge Aguirre, I developed very strong technical fundamentals, discipline, and a deep appreciation for the process of improvement through consistent training as well as competition.

At 15, I moved to the United States and joined my high school varsity team in Virginia Beach, Virginia. As team captain, I helped lead our team to a regional final appearance in my junior year, finishing the season with an 84-6 singles record and also a 18-2 doubles record. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the high school season was canceled, I began coaching players of all ages and skill levels. This experience sparked my passion for teaching and helped me develop a communication style focused on clarity, adaptability, and building confidence in each player. I then continued my playing career at the Division I level at the College of the Holy Cross, where I competed at the top of the lineup, including at No. 1 doubles, and earned multiple conference wins during both my freshman and sophomore years.

While injuries limited my ability to reach my full potential as a player, they also pushed me into a leadership role and deepened my desire to help others navigate challenges that I experienced myself. Today, I combine my competitive background with my passion for coaching tennis to help players improve, enjoy the game, and reach their full potential. I teach tennis lessons in the Needham Heights area but I will also travel up to 8 miles to a tennis court that’s located near you!
