About Boca Raton Tennis Coach Gabriel

Hello my name is Gabriel and I am a local Boca Raton tennis coach with over 26 years of playing experience & over 5 years of teaching experience! I am also a RSPA Certified Tennis Professional. I was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and lived there until I graduated from high school. I played tennis from a very young age at a competitive level and attended various tennis tournaments around the country competing both for my high school team and also my country club.

I came to the United States to study back in 2012 and attended the Miami International University of Art & Design where I studied film production. I still kept involved in tennis while in college and started coaching in 2019. I have worked at various facilities including Patch Reef Tennis Center, Boca Raton Tennis Center, Boca Raton Swim and Racquet Center as well as country clubs including Boca West, Boca Woods, Boca Bath and Tennis, among many others. I stay active in playing tennis and teaching around 30+ hours on the court every week. Tennis is a passion for me-it’s more than just a business-I really enjoy working in the industry as well as developing the connections. I teach tennis lessons in the Boca Raton area but I will also travel up to 20 miles to a tennis court that is conveniently located near you!

Coach Gabriel's Tennis Tips

  1. Arrive Ready To Learn

For your first tennis lesson in Boca Raton, tell me your experience, goals, and any shots that feel difficult. Bring a racket if you have one, plus water and a short list of questions. You do not need to prepare by mastering the basics; I can assess your starting point and shape the session around what will help you most.

  2. Choose The Right Format

Private tennis lessons give you focused feedback and a plan built around your needs. Semi-private tennis lessons add a partner for cooperative drills and shared learning. Group tennis lessons offer practice with several players, while hitting only sessions provide rally time without a full instructional format. Choose based on the attention, interaction, and structure you want.

  3. Set A Clear First Goal

Make your goal specific enough to guide each session. Instead of saying you want to get better, aim to rally five balls crosscourt or improve your serve toss consistency. I help students choose a useful first target, then adjust it as skills develop. A clear goal keeps tennis lessons focused without making progress feel like an all-or-nothing test.

  4. Practice Between Lessons

Between sessions, repeat one or two cues from your lesson rather than trying to fix everything at once. Shadow swings, controlled serves, or a short rally with a partner can reinforce a skill. Keep practice manageable and stop when your form gets rushed. Consistent, focused repetition helps you bring useful questions back to your next lesson.

  5. Match Lessons To Your Stage

Beginner tennis lessons can build grip, ready position, contact, and simple rally skills step by step. Kids tennis lessons should keep learning active and age-appropriate; junior tennis lessons can add tactics as players mature. Adult tennis lessons may focus on fundamentals, confidence, or match patterns. Tell your tennis coach what feels comfortable and what challenges you.

  6. Track Progress With Notes

After each lesson, write down one skill that improved, one cue to remember, and one question for next time. Note a simple measure, such as how many controlled serves land in or how long a rally lasts. Comparing notes over several weeks reveals progress that can be hard to notice day to day and helps your tennis instructor plan.

  7. Ask For Feedback In Play

During drills, ask your coach what to notice, not only whether a shot was good. For example, ask if your contact point is in front or whether your recovery step is timely. Then try the cue for several repetitions before requesting another adjustment. This keeps feedback practical and gives you a clearer way to self-correct outside lessons.

  8. Use Partners With Purpose

A hitting partner can help you repeat patterns, but agree on a focus before you start. Rally crosscourt, alternate targets, or feed each other manageable balls instead of chasing every point. In a hitting only session, tell me the pace and consistency you want. Purposeful repetitions make court time more useful and complement instruction without replacing it.

  9. Review And Reset Goals

Every few weeks, review your notes and compare your current performance with your starting point. Keep goals that still matter, revise ones that are too easy, and break down goals that feel out of reach. Progress may show up as better balance or smarter shot choices before it appears in scores. A tennis instructor can help set your next step.

  10. Coach's Corner

I teach a reliable forehand by asking players to turn their shoulders early, then meet the ball slightly in front with a relaxed grip. Aim crosscourt first: the net is lower in the middle, and the wider target gives you room for error. After contact, finish across your body and recover toward the center. Try the same sequence slowly before adding pace.

If you are ready to make your practice more purposeful, I can help you choose a lesson format and set goals that fit your game. I teach tennis lessons in Boca Raton, including private, semi-private, and group instruction, as well as hitting only sessions for focused rally time. Bring your questions, and we will build a practical next step together. Book a lesson with Coach Gabriel and get started!
