About Scott

Hello my name is Scott and I am a local Oakland tennis coach with over 11 years of playing experience and over 4 years of teaching experience! I am a former Division 1 athlete, Ivy League Champion, team captain at Brown and Fordham Universities and Atlantic 10 Division 1 coach. As the academy director for the Wolfpack Tennis Academy, I am experienced in many sports and I have instructed tennis for beginners of all ages, experienced teens and adults, as well as children. I take a grounded approach to teaching by seeking to cultivate creativity and promote intellectual curiosity in a student-centered learning environment. I bring a vast variety of technical and tactical tennis instruction to each lesson and enjoy motivating and inspiring my students in a fun and enthusiastic tennis training for all.

I have a master’s degree in Critical Theory from Mills College, where I graduated summa cum laude. I am also currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Off court, I’m a director of theatre productions, professional musician & also an acting teacher.

I am offering fun private tennis lessons, semi-private tennis lessons and group tennis lessons for all ages (kids, teens, adults, seniors) and for all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). So whether you need to work on some specifics like your forehand, backhand, volley, serve, service return, overhead, drop shot, approach shot, footwork, singles strategy or doubles strategy-I’d be more than happy to help!

I teach tennis lessons in the Oakland and San Francisco area but I will also travel up to 10 miles to a tennis court that’s located near you.

Please contact me through my coach page and then I will contact you back within 24 hours to introduce myself, answer any questions and if you are interested, we’ll set-up your first tennis lesson at a time and place that is convenient for you. I look forward to hearing from you and I look forward to the opportunity to be your local Oakland tennis coach. See you out on the tennis court!

"Scott has been an amazing instructor for both our kids and ourselves. He is super friendly and easy to work with, and his coaching still is custom tailored to each individual’s skill level as well as their style of learning. We only recently began an interest in tennis and it’s thanks to Scott’s help that the kids’ passion for the sport is growing. And in just a short time we’ve seen marked improvements in technique and consistency. We’re so thankful we found Scott and look forward to working with him for a long time!”

"Scott is a fantastic instructor! I just picked up tennis in the beginning of the year, and his versatile teaching lessons keep me engaged, focused and always on my toes. He is patient, fun, and provides very pointed feedback. I’m looking forward to many lessons with Scott and continuing to strengthen my tennis game!"

"If you have the chance to work with Scott, do it!! He’s one of those rare instructors who is extremely knowledgeable about the techniques of tennis, is a skilled tennis player in his own right, AND knows how to leverage his experience as a teacher to instruct in a way that’s engaging, retainable, and fun! His positive and encouraging nature is also super motivating no matter what your age. We feel incredibly lucky to have been referred to Scott and recommend him hands down!"
