About Ginger

*I AM ONLY AVAILABLE THURSDAY AND SUNDAY MORNINGS*

Hello my name is Ginger and I am a local Carlsbad tennis coach with over 42 years of playing experience and over 21 years of teaching experience! I’m also a PTR Certified Tennis Professional and here’s my tennis bio: Ginger is a former American women’s professional tennis player. She reached her highest singles ranking back on January 2, 1995 when she became No. 29 in the world. Then in doubles, she reached No. 38 in the world back on January 9, 1995.

Ginger was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota and then attended Edina High School where she was a three-time (3) consecutive Minnesota state singles champion and ranked No. 1 by the USTA Northern at all levels. Receiving a scholarship from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, Ginger was a four-year letter winner and three-time All American. She ended her senior year ranked No. 4 in the country in singles and was also a three-time WCC champion. She holds the all-time best career winning percentage at Pepperdine (.837) and is No. 2 in career wins (77) and helped Pepperdine advance to the NCAA quarterfinals each of her final three years there. While at Pepperdine, Ginger majored in Telecommunications and minored in Business.

Ginger played professionally from 1987 to 1998. Her best season was back in 1994, where she won her first WTA title in Auckland and reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the US OPEN. At the latter event, she beat reigning Wimbledon champion Conchita Martínez for her biggest career victory and in addition to her win over Martínez, she also recorded victories over other tennis pros such as Helena Suková, Mary Joe Fernández, Gigi Fernández, Anke Huber, Lori McNeil, Sabine Appelmans, Sabine Hack and Natasha Zvereva.

From 1992 to 2000, Ginger was an Honorary Trustee and featured tennis professional of InnerCity Tennis, a non-profit 501(c)(3) located in Minneapolis, Minnesota that works with inner city youth to build character, self-esteem and physical abilities. Each year a scholarship was given to a deserving female InnerCity tennis participant in the name of Ginger under the prestigious award category, “Enthusiasm”.

In 2002, Ginger was inducted into the Edina High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She was inducted into the Pepperdine Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 and the USTA Northern Hall of Fame in 2009. She was a featured speaker at the 2008 and 2009 inductions as well as guest speaker to coaches, parents and players at the 2010 USTA (United States Tennis Association) Spring Tennis Festival in Minneapolis, MN.

Testimonials

"As an Active Duty Marine Corps Officer, I have a long history of sports medicine injuries. I have also had exposure to world class coaches and instructors at Quantico, Virginia and top-tier medical care at Walter Reed in Bethesda. I had never experienced the intersection of an elite athlete and top shelf wellness/performance coaching until I was trained by Coach Ginger. I retained her services in conjunction with Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy and I can say without hesitation that she was the most important part of my road to recovery. She has my absolute highest recommendation!"

Testimonials

"Morning tennis with my great friend and fantastic coach Ginger. We've been working together for about 4, going on 5 years now and you have done so much for my game in so many ways. Even with your realign design techniques helping me after shoulder surgery to recover and be able to play again, not just with ability but with confidence again. So excited to see where you will take my game in the future. Thank you for having been there and for everything you've done for me. You're a talented person that anyone should come to given your skill set. Thanks again for a great lesson this morning!"

Testimonials

"I'm a former athlete that's been wanting to learn the game of tennis for a number of years and even hired a coach a few years back that abandoned me-he left me feeling like I was un-coachable. That's when I met Ginger. She's an awesome coach and she has patience to help you relax and focus on what she is teaching you if you don't understand it the first time. She's able to break the movement down even more so you really understand what she's wanting you to do. I would recommend her to anyone looking to learn the game, improve their game or take it to the next level. She's in my opinion the best-plus she's a former top pro. I owe my game to her and her coaching!"

"There is no better way to start a day than with a tennis lesson from Ginger. I've taken weekly lessons for eight years straight and I look forward to my Friday mornings each and every week. Not only does Ginger teach technique and strategy, she makes a fast-paced workout fun! I couldn't recommend this fabulous woman and athlete any higher!"

Testimonials

"With other coaches I used to "hit" and get "tips." Ginger analyzed my strokes and fixed them (or at least improved them a lot). Now I have to find new guys to play because I'm trashing all the ones I used to struggle against. So if you want to hit a plateau and get stuck with your crappy strokes, don't hire Ginger!"
