*I AM ONLY AVAILABLE THURSDAY AND SUNDAY MORNINGS*
Hello my name is Ginger and I am a local Carlsbad tennis coach with over 42 years of playing experience and over 21 years of teaching experience! I’m also a PTR Certified Tennis Professional and here’s my tennis bio: Ginger is a former American women’s professional tennis player. She reached her highest singles ranking back on January 2, 1995 when she became No. 29 in the world. Then in doubles, she reached No. 38 in the world back on January 9, 1995.
Ginger was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota and then attended Edina High School where she was a three-time (3) consecutive Minnesota state singles champion and ranked No. 1 by the USTA Northern at all levels. Receiving a scholarship from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, Ginger was a four-year letter winner and three-time All American. She ended her senior year ranked No. 4 in the country in singles and was also a three-time WCC champion. She holds the all-time best career winning percentage at Pepperdine (.837) and is No. 2 in career wins (77) and helped Pepperdine advance to the NCAA quarterfinals each of her final three years there. While at Pepperdine, Ginger majored in Telecommunications and minored in Business.
Ginger played professionally from 1987 to 1998. Her best season was back in 1994, where she won her first WTA title in Auckland and reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the US OPEN. At the latter event, she beat reigning Wimbledon champion Conchita Martínez for her biggest career victory and in addition to her win over Martínez, she also recorded victories over other tennis pros such as Helena Suková, Mary Joe Fernández, Gigi Fernández, Anke Huber, Lori McNeil, Sabine Appelmans, Sabine Hack and Natasha Zvereva.
From 1992 to 2000, Ginger was an Honorary Trustee and featured tennis professional of InnerCity Tennis, a non-profit 501(c)(3) located in Minneapolis, Minnesota that works with inner city youth to build character, self-esteem and physical abilities. Each year a scholarship was given to a deserving female InnerCity tennis participant in the name of Ginger under the prestigious award category, “Enthusiasm”.
In 2002, Ginger was inducted into the Edina High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She was inducted into the Pepperdine Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 and the USTA Northern Hall of Fame in 2009. She was a featured speaker at the 2008 and 2009 inductions as well as guest speaker to coaches, parents and players at the 2010 USTA (United States Tennis Association) Spring Tennis Festival in Minneapolis, MN.
